Entry into the Senior School
It is a very special moment when any pupil joins our Senior School and on this page you can find out information about how our admissions process for pupils joining us in years 7 to 11 works.
Many of our pupils join in Year 7 after visiting us on our October Open Morning and sitting an entrance examination in November of their Year 6. We recommend registering early for this examination and for our range of prestigious Scholarship and Exhibition awards as interest is always high.
Pupils are very welcome to join us at the start of Year 8, Year 9 or Year 10 as we know parents want to make sure that their children will thrive in this important period of their education. We help pupils to make a smooth transition to their secondary and GCSE studies.
For pupils who wish to join us mid-year, examinations, tours and other admissions arrangements can be made as required – please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Candidates for entry into the Senior School take papers in Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English, Comprehension and a computer based assessment.
We host Year 7 ‘How to do an Entrance Test’ evenings each year to help children feel confident in their entrance examinations.

Inspection Highlights
In March 2020, NULS’s Nursery, Prep School, Seniors and Sixth Form received their full Education Quality Inspection. This is the largest and most comprehensive of the Independent School Inspectorate’s visits. We are delighted that following this inspection, NULS was awarded the very highest gradings possible by ISI.
Securing a clean sweep of ‘Excellent’ grades in both Achievement and Personal Development is notoriously difficult, however we were thrilled that NULS was awarded the prestigious accolade of ‘Double Excellent’; a brilliant testimony to the ability of our academic staff and support teams, and the hugely impressive achievements and personal qualities of our pupils.
However, in our desire to be relentless in our aspirations, it is essential that we never rest on our laurels and that we now embark on taking our standards and achievements even higher. This is a goal that we will relish, as we seek to endorse our school motto, of Always Striving to Reach New Heights. Nunquam Non Nova Summa Sequendo!
Please do read the full evidence and details that are shared by our full Education Quality Inspection Report, 2020 below.
