Parents wishing to register prospective pupils are requested to complete the Registration Form and return it to the Registrar.
Arrange a Visit
There is no alternative to coming to see Newcastle-under-Lyme School for yourself, to sample the atmosphere and, most of all, to meet the people.
Nursery and Junior Open Mornings are held during each term. The next event will be on Wednesday 19 June.
Senior School Open Morning will take place on Saturday 5 October 2019.
Sixth Form Open Evening will be held at the beginning of the Autumn term.
Sixth Form Taster Days - Contact our registrar to register your interest for taster days, designed to enable pupils to experience a day in the life of our Sixth Formers.
Entry into the Nursery
Children may start Nursery at any time of the year, subject to availability. The earliest they can start is at the beginning of the term in which they will turn three (rising threes). The School terms run from 1 September - 31 December; 1 January - 31 March and 1 April - 31 August.
The day is divided into 2 sessions, morning and afternoon with lunch being considered as part of the morning session. We also provide a shorter day to allow parents to collect children at the same time as older siblings in the Junior or Senior School.
Parents may choose to structure the number of sessions in a variety of ways although we require a minimum of 5 sessions:
- A mixture of mornings and afternoons
- A mixture of whole days
- Whole weeks
- Term time only or 50 week provision.
- Funded sessions only
Entry into the Junior School
Subject to availability, a Reception place can be offered on the outcome of an informal assessment based on practical activities covering general development. Children entering Years 1 to 6 will undertake an assessment.
Entry into the Senior School
Prospective pupils for any year group will be required to sit an Entrance Examination. For those who missed our Entrance Test in November there will be a further Entrance Test in January. Please register your child to receive details.
Subject to available places, examinations can be arranged throughout the academic year.
Candidates for entry into the Senior School take papers in Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English, Comprehension, along with a Computer Based Assessment.
Entry into the Sixth Form
Entry into the Sixth Form is by interview and satisfactory school report.
An offer will be made conditional upon the applicant achieving a minimum of five (I)GCSEs at grade 6 / B and 3 at grade 5 / C. Subjects selected for study at A Level will need to be at grade 6 / B or above.
