We Thrive: our whole school pastoral programme that aims to ensure that NULS’ culture is kind, supportive and consistently celebrates our pupils’ individuality and diversity.
In our Autumn 2025 newsletter we highlighted our pupils’ opportunities to gain experience in leadership roles, discussed our focus on pupil wellbeing and voice, in addition to our school’s work for their chosen charities for this academic year.

Our Sixth Form students play a key role in the life of our School, with many opportunities for eldest students to develop their leadership skills.
Whether that be as Prefects, Co-curricular Captains, Sports Captains or Senior CCF Cadets, we are proud of our students who provide inspiration and guidance to all our pupils.
Wellbeing is a key aspect of all young people’s lives and we know that a happy young person will thrive in all areas of their life.
Following feedback from a recent pupil survey, we are incredibly proud to announce that a new Wellbeing Room is now open and available to our pupils. Located in the Stinton Building, the recently refurbished room is an oasis of calm and is now open to pupils throughout the school day for mindfulness or to receive pastoral support.
Odd Socks Day took place on Monday 10 November and our whole school was encouraged to wear odd socks to mark the start of Anti Bullying Week.
It was great to see so many pupils, from ages 5 to 18, celebrating individuality and raising awareness about bullying through the simple activity of wearing odd socks.
Each year on 11 November, the whole of the Senior School are joined by Year 6 from Prep to remember those who gave their lives in conflict and especially those former pupil who died during the wars.
The school’s CCF contingent played a prominent role in leading the service, in addition to pupils from our lunchtime Art and Ceramics club who crafted ceramic doves which were hung in the Headmaster’s Garden, enhancing our remembrance experience.
Pupil voice is an important aspect of school life and has shaped some of our key decisions over the past years.
Through our Senior School Councils and pupil surveys, we ensure that no pupil is left unheard and that we further enhance our wellbeing provision in school. At Prep School, our pupils recently took the lead in selecting this year’s charity, in addition to contributing fundraising ideas and Prep focussed surveys.
Each year, our Senior School community looks to support a different charity.
Led by Sixth Formers Freya and Gracie, our Charity Committee is made up of pupils from all years in our Senior School who work with Mrs Machin in deciding which local charity to support and how we look to support them.
Happy children thrive and it is important that we guide our young people throughout their time at NULS.
Our pupils benefit from daily check-ins with their Form Tutors and a bespoke, weekly PSHE programme led by our experienced pastoral staff. Our guidance is aligned with the PSHE Association and personally tailored to the evolving needs of our young people.
Assemblies are an important component in school life and offers an opportunity to guide our pupils.
All pupils attend the Headmaster’s assembly which takes place in St Paul’s Church on a weekly basis. In addition to this, all pupils attend Head of Year assemblies in which Head’s of Year lead an assembly on a variety of topics which are informative and supportive of the year group.
