Dance at NULS is thriving and we are proud to provide pupils with a seamless pathway from Little NULS through to our Sixth Form, offering every pupil the opportunity to discover their passion for dance and performance.
We are delighted that so many of our pupils are involved in our vibrant and diverse co-curricular dance programme. Our Prep pupils are able to take part in Ballet or Street Dance classes with our resident dance teacher and our older pupils in Senior School and Sixth Form thrive in our lunchtime and after-school dance classes. All sessions take place in our professional, mirrored dance studio, which provides an inspiring environment where pupils can refine their technique and enjoy the creativity of movement.
We understand the importance of live performance opportunities for our pupils. Whether taking the spotlight in our dedicated in-house theatre – Margaret Powell Theatre – equipped with a full professional lighting rig and tiered seating, or in external venues, our pupils have the chance to experience the thrill of the stage. These professional standard opportunities enable our pupils to showcase choreography and share the rewarding moment of all their hard work coming together with their dance peers.
Our Senior co-curricular dancers graced Staffordshire’s largest stage in a vibrant celebration of dance.
026 Dance was an amazing opportunity for our dancers to showcase their hard work on the Regent Theatre, an impressive and professional stage. Their vibrant performance was part of the annual celebration of dance led by the theatre and marked the fourth year that our pupils have performed in the showcase.
Over 30 of our pupils performed a piece choreographed by our Senior School dance teacher Miss Wallbank, showcasing many styles of dance including contemporary, cheerleading and Bollywood.
At the end of the Spring term we celebrated all things dance with our annual Dance Evening.
It was an incredibly special evening as it brought together our youngest dancers in our Prep School, right through to our Sixth Form Dance Captains, in a wonderful show of collaboration and display of their joy for dance.
Our pupils demonstrated their breadth of talents with Bollywood, hip-hop, contemporary and jazz dances with every pupil having their moment to shine – whether that in a solo, or in one of the many group dances.
A huge well done to each of our students who performed and thank you to Miss Wallbank and Mrs Grecian for all of their hard work with our dance groups.
To quote of Headmaster Mr Getty, “what a wonderful way to end the term!”.
The Golden Age of Broadway arrived at NULS in our whole school production of “Anything Goes”. A true highlight of the show, our dancers showcased their technical skill, bringing the high-energy complexity of tap dancing to the production.
They worked hard to perfect their dance routines during months of disciplined rehearsals and their performances were stellar, complimenting the atmosphere of a professional theatre captivating our audiences throughout the show’s voyage.
