A-Level Examination Statement

Students usually sit nine subjects at GCSE/IGCSE.
 
A Level students sit examinations at the end of Year 13 in three subjects.
 
The 2017 - 2019 cohort did have the option of sitting one standalone AS at the end of Year 12. (The 2018 - 2020 cohort choose three A Levels and will not sit standalone AS subjects.)
 
School predicted grades are based on Baseline data, staff professional judgements and internal assessments.

Another excellent set of of results for our A-Level students - August 2018

 
Our students at Newcastle-under-Lyme School have delivered a strong set of A Level results.  57 per cent of entries have been awarded A* to B grades.
Furthermore, the School has seen an increase in the proportion of entries gaining the highest A* award as we continue to strive to deliver the highest academic quality and value to all our students.
 
12 out of 84 students achieved at least three A Levels at A* and A grades. Such excellent results have gained places at a range of the top universities.Choi Ling Yu achieved all three subjects at A* gaining her a place to read Medicine at Birmingham University.
Ananya Arora achieved 2 A*s and 2 As. She will take up a place to read Medicine at Selwyn College, Cambridge.

 

The following four students all received A*, A*, A: Lauren Charlton - Veterinary Science, University of Surrey; Georgia Hughes – Mathematics, University of St Andrews; Saba Nasrolahi – Law, King’s College London; Gareth Trillo – Dentistry, King’s College London.
 
The following achieved A*, A, A: Hollie Barnett - English Literature and Philosophy, Keele; Max Marlow - Government and History, London School of Economics; Alisha Owen-Evans – English, King’s College London; Georgia Whilock – Economics, University of Exeter and Harini Ratnayake who will take a gap year.
 
Lewis McGhee achieved A, A, A; Basil Ibrahim and Stephanie Else, A*, A, B; Sophie McCabe A*, B, B; Loretta Zhang, A, A, B, B; and with A, A, B – George Cooper, Ophelia Douglas Davies, Lauranne Finney, Carolina Gross, Chris Owen, Joseph Potts, and Oliver Tinsley.
 
Many more students received very good results, reflecting dedicated individual efforts. At the time of writing, re-marks and university adjustments will still be ongoing for some time.
 
Particularly commenting on the University placements, Head of Sixth Form, Beverley Godridge said, "So many of our students have performed exceptionally well. It is great to see them taking up their deserved places at some of the top universities in the UK."
 
Headmaster, Nick Vernon added his congratulations, "These results are a great credit to the School. We know we send these students on their way well equipped to embrace their future opportunities. I would also add my recognition and thanks to the teaching staff and the students' parents, who have supported them throughout their time at Newcastle-under-Lyme School."
