Our first assembly of the Summer Term was led by Mr Getty and he spoke about Earth Day. Mr Getty talked about the importance of caring for our world and how we all have a responsibility to safeguard the future of our planet. This year’s theme was ‘Invest in our Planet’ and Mr Getty spoke about the impact of us spending time, resources and energy into solving climate change and other environmental issues.
The student led Environment Society has continued to meet to discuss ways in which the School can work more sustainably and how they can help students to be well informed about issues connected to the environment and sustainability.
As we are also transforming our School catering, the changes which we are introducing in the food we serve and how we serve it will also ensure that we as a school are investing in our planet. We have already worked on removing disposable drink bottles and cartons as all pupils now have access to hydration stations. September will see further changes as we move towards a more environmentally friendlier provision.
Newcastle under Lyme School’s youngest pupils have raised over £5000 for Cancer Research UK by completing a sponsored walk ‘from’ Newcastle-under-Lyme to Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia.
