Students at Newcastle Under Lyme School achieved stellar A level results, with an incredible 31% of all grades receiving the blue riband A* Grade, dispelling national fears of post-Covid result downgrading. Headmaster, Michael Getty, was thrilled, commenting:
“This year has seen a huge focus nationally on how exams will be downgraded and it is so pleasing to see our students’ stunning grades actually break school records and dispel any such worries. An incredible 62% of all of their examinations were awarded the very top A*-A grades with 84% of students’ examinations accessing the prestigious A*-B grades, which is all absolutely breath-taking! The Department of Education indicated that only very highly performing schools and students would be able to achieve the top grade outcomes and that is exactly what these bright, hardworking students have done. Hats off to them!”
NULS’ academic reputation is long-standing and Mr Getty was full of praise for the ever stronger relationships that his teachers and students have forged during the pandemic:
“The partnership between teacher and student is absolutely key to enabling all students to achieve their potential” Mr Getty added. “A phenomenal twenty nine students secured straight A*/A grades alone, with subjects like Mathematics, Sciences, English and the Humanities proving particularly successful. We actually have eight students who have secured the elusive clean sweep of straight A*s in all of their A level subjects! This cohort has met the challenge of A Level and the unique pressures of this year’s post-pandemic results head-on, and now depart to study at the likes of Cambridge, UCL, Imperial College London and leading Russell Group Universities on a vastly diverse range of courses, from Law to Engineering, from Product Design to Medicine! We even have one student going to study at the enormously prestigious UC Berkeley, in the USA. We are so proud of them!”
Louis Bond: “The site of the camp was much larger than I had ever expected. Much of the camp was destroyed, but there were the cabin like structures at the front of the complex which were tiny in comparison to the number of people who were forced to stay in them. At the rear of the
