Newcastle-under-Lyme Preparatory School has welcomed Mrs Kathryn Thomson as their new Headteacher and she has her sights set on taking the school from strength to strength.
Mrs Thomson arrives at NULS’ Prep School following a series of high profile appointments at prestigious schools across the country including Shropshire-based Moreton Hall and Shrewsbury High School, where she was Deputy Head of Academic and Pastoral and the renowned Wimbledon High School, where her innovative work deserved much praise. Mrs Thomson previous successes are not in the educational domain however, as she was also once a World Ranked Tennis Player!
Speaking of her appointment at NULS, Kathryn said: “I feel enormously privileged to have been appointed at NULS as it is a Preparatory School with an enviable reputation but also an ethos which very much matches my own. I am a fervent believer in holistic education and that is what NULS Prep aims to provide. From Nursery upwards children need nurturing in an outstanding learning environment but one in which they have real breadth in their all around opportunities.’
Mrs Thomson is already on court and utilising her tennis skills as she coaches the pupils at NULS too. “We are very fortunate at NULS Prep, as we share all of the Senior Schools facilities which means Sport can be pursued by the children in a very exciting and specialist way. We take this approach right across school, teaching Design Technology and Coding in our labs with our little ones, Science in our Science block, Dance in our Dance Studio and so on. Our aim is simple; to give our pupils a very special experience with unique opportunities which enables them to flourish in small classes where they can be nurtured and supported.”
As the School finds itself an increasingly popular choice, from September 2022 new classes will be opening to enable more pupils to receive the highest standards within the classroom both academically and pastorally.
Kathryn said: “My favourite thing about NULS Prep is the strength of the community and how all staff, pupils and parents come together and work with each other knowing that the pupils’ experience and their time at school is the most important thing. We know this as there are parents who came to this school and are now sending their children to this school. There is a real family feel.”
