Newcastle-under-Lyme School is proud to unveil its innovative Elite Athlete Programme, a tailored pathway designed to empower aspiring athletes as they pursue excellence in performance sport.
This comprehensive programme offers dedicated athletes exclusive access to a wealth of specialist coaching and support. Students have access to weekly small group Strength and Conditioning Coaching, personalised training plans which are accessible at all times via a dedicated app, and 12 interactive workshops throughout the year covering essential topics such as nutrition, sports psychology, sleep optimisation and hydration and much more.
In addition to expert-led sessions, students on the Elite Athlete Programme benefit from inspiring guest speaker events, where accomplished athletes and professionals share their journeys, offering invaluable insights and practical advice for navigating elite pathways in sport.
In recognition that many sports scholars are also on elite pathways outside of school, NULS fosters close collaboration with students’ external coaches, ensuring their programme at school aligns seamlessly with external training plans.
While the full Elite Athlete Programme is currently available to 20 of our Sixth Form students, NULS is dedicated to providing pupils of all ages with opportunities to reach their goals. Those in Year 7-11 now receive weekly Strength and Conditioning sessions, with those in Year 10 and 11 also participating in selected workshops from the Sixth Form programme.
Director of Sport, Mrs Rebecca Lea, commented: “Our Elite Athlete Programme provides invaluable support to aspiring athletes in school, offering a unique opportunity to enhance their skills both in and out of the classroom. By fostering strong links with external coaches, athletes gain access to expert guidance and a wealth of knowledge that enriches their development. The diverse PSHE workshops provide crucial insights to help athletes excel in every aspect of their training and personal growth. This holistic approach equips them to succeed at the highest level, both as athletes and individuals.”
