Newcastle-under-Lyme School is celebrating an outstanding season of hockey success, with all boys’ and girls’ teams from U11 to U16 securing places in the Midlands finals. Most of our senior school hockey teams have either been named county champions or runners-up and in an extraordinary achievement, the U13 and U14 boys’ teams have gone one step further, earning a coveted spot in the national finals.
This latest success builds on the school’s long-standing track record in hockey, with multiple teams having previously claimed national titles. NULS’ U16 girls’ team made history earlier this season by being crowned Tier 3 National Champions and our 1st XI boys’ team took the Tier 2 National title in 2022. The impressive performances across all age groups highlight the strength and depth of talent at NULS, as well as the dedication of both players and the schools’ specialist coaching staff.
Director of Sport, Mrs Lea, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our teams for their hard work and determination. To have every boys’ and girls’ team from U11 to U16 qualify for the Regional Finals is a testament to the strength of our hockey programme. With regional and national finals around the corner, our pupils are training hard and are looking forward to representing NULS at regional and national levels.”
Newcastle-under-Lyme School is proud to be home to one of the region’s leading school hockey programmes, supported by a team of specialist coaches and access to outstanding facilities including a fully flood-lit Astro-turf. Curricular and co-curricular hockey form a large part of the wider sporting provision, with a large number of pupils progressing to elite academies and pathways.
