Co-curricular

Outside the classroom children enjoy a variety of sports and trips and a wide range of clubs and societies take place at lunchtimes and after school. There are also opportunities throughout the year for pupils to get involved with drama and music activities.

The happy, family atmosphere of the Pre-Prep Department complements the varied and well balanced curriculum provided for each child.

We encourage all of our children to become involved in the wider life of the School according to their own interests and potential. Music and sports are popular activities with tuition available in a wide range of instruments while our Physical Education programme provides an introduction to the major sports and includes dance/movement and regular swimming.

By the end of their time in Pre-Prep, our children will be ready for the transition into the Preparatory Department. They will have grown in confidence, developed the skills for learning and will feel secure in their knowledge of past success and their place in a happy, positive and energetic community of learning.

We hope that parents too will share in this developing journey and encourage all to become involved in their child’s progress. Communication between home and school is seen as a major strength in our work and you will always be welcome to join with us in ensuring the best possible start for your child.

In the Preparatory Department, we continue to pursue the diversity of, and participation in, extra-curricular activities both at lunch times and after school. These include technology, swimming, football, netball, hockey, cricket, salt dough, athletics, music, gymnastics, tennis, craft, speech and drama, dance, French and origami etc. and it should be emphasised that this is not an exhaustive list! School teams and musicians take part in events and competitions locally, regionally and nationally and at each assembly time is taken to celebrate and praise the many achievements of our children at whatever level.

Drama Productions

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - March 2018
Our Junior School pupils put on a showstopping performance of Roald Dahl's classic over two nights during the Spring Term.
Many of you will recall hearing the story of Charlie Bucket and his adventures in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory from your own childhood and our Junior School pupils have given their own unique take on this all-time children's classic.

Below is a taste of the 'scrumdiddlyumptious' performance, Oompa Loompas and all!

Sport

Junior School Sport
Newcastle-under-Lyme Junior School makes a serious commitment to games and physical education for all children. Physical Education and Games lessons are taught by Junior School staff and by P.E specialists from the Senior School. All Pre-Prep and Prep children benefit from regular swimming lessons in the School’s own 25m pool. There are also extensive opportunities for all children to pursue their sporting interests through practices at lunchtimes and after School with a variety of activities on offer.

We take great pride in the number of Junior School teams that compete each year in a variety of sports and other physical activities locally, regionally and nationally.
The teacher in charge of P.E and Games in the Junior School is Mr. Danny Roberts.
