EDI continues to run through our whole school community and in all areas of school life. We are a school that is proud of its diversity and we think that it is important to celebrate and recognise the diversity in our community.
In history lessons Year 9 have been learning about Civil Rights movement and the struggles that they had to try and bring about change. Our Summer Concert featured music from all over the world and it was lovely to hear our Lower School Choir sing a song in Congolese.
When the EDI Committee was planning themes for the year, they decided that April would be the month of celebrating neurodiversity. From Year 7 to Sixth Form there were assemblies and form time acknowledging the impact that has been made to our world by neurodivergent people.
Assemblies this term have also focussed on topics such as Windrush. In her assembly nearest to 22 June, Mrs Simms spoke about the people who arrived on the Windrush, the reasons for their journey, they difficulties they faced and more importantly the wonderful contributions that they made to the UK.
Newcastle under Lyme School’s youngest pupils have raised over £5000 for Cancer Research UK by completing a sponsored walk ‘from’ Newcastle-under-Lyme to Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia.
