Drama and Performing Arts are at the heart of a NULS education. We offer an exceptional platform for pupils to immerse themselves in all that we have to offer, driven by an imaginative annual programme that invites all students to experience the joy of performing.

Through our curriculum, pupils hone their craft through GCSE and A-Level syllabus’, with a number of Theatre Trips and workshops in the school calendar, really bringing the arts to life!

Our Drama Scholars lead the way, showing great commitment to the department as they progress through school.

We have a long history of pupils moving onto professional careers on stage, on screen and behind the scenes.

Performance Opportunities

Our Drama Department offers all pupils with the opportunity to perform, as we stage three productions throughout the school year including:

Whole School Musical (Year 7-13)
Lower School Production (Year 7-9)
Upper School Production (Year 10-13)

Supported through weekly rehearsals, pupils form bonds across year groups making lasting friendships and memories that are central to their experience at NULS.

Behind the Scenes Experience

For every production, we have a dedicated crew of pupils who help performances come to life through supporting lighting, sound and stage management. These early experiences have inspired a number of pupils to pursue this beyond NULS, gaining places on courses at prestigious univerities like LAMDA and RADA.

A Programme of Outstanding Productions

NULS has a long history of staging highly impressive shows each year, with three productions including musicals and plays.

Previous shows include: Les Misérables, Oklahoma, Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Anything Goes, Blithe Spirit, Twelfth Night, Into the Woods, Blue Stockings, One Man, Two Guvnors, Alice in Wonderland, Animal Farm, Treasure Island, The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and so many more.

LAMDA Tuition

Children are also offered additional LAMDA tuition with our resident specialist teachers, providing them with the chance to develop their speech and drama skills. This tuition allows pupils to take exams set by the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Many excel in these examinations, achieving exceptional results ranging from Merit to Distinction across Grades 1-8.
