From Cinderella and Prince Charming to Little Red Riding Hood, pupils from Year 10 to Year 12 masterfully played a host of classic fairytale characters in their portrayal of the famous Stephen Sondheim musical.
Into the Woods is about a baker and his wife who wish to have a child but cannot do so due to a curse cast by a witch. To lift the curse, the couple has to obtain four objects that she desperately needs.
Supporting our wonderful performers were Mrs Betts-Nicholson and Mr Yu who co-directed the superb show and provided our pupils with valuable advice and direction. Additionally, the band, which was superbly headed up by our Director of Music Mr Sagar, played the incredibly complex score which accompanied our actors and singers.
Pupils also had the opportunity to take part in supporting roles backstage including lighting and sound, which provided them with an amazing opportunity to get involved in a other aspects of staging a theatrical performance.
Newcastle under Lyme School’s youngest pupils have raised over £5000 for Cancer Research UK by completing a sponsored walk ‘from’ Newcastle-under-Lyme to Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia.
