It was wonderful to welcome our former Head of English, Bill Gillen, back to NULS last week and to show him around the School, including his old classroom, Memorial Hall and the Stinton Building. Many former staff and pupils are amazed by the changes and developments in school.
Bill was Head of English at NULS from 1973-1980 and had the pleasure of directing a number of School plays including Hamlet, Julius Cesar and A Man For All Seasons. Upon leaving NULS, Bill was appointed to become Deputy Head at Royal Grammar School Guildford before taking up Headships at King’s School, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and The Arnold School, Blackpool.
Newcastle under Lyme School’s youngest pupils have raised over £5000 for Cancer Research UK by completing a sponsored walk ‘from’ Newcastle-under-Lyme to Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia.
