Girls start their hockey season at King's Macclesfield
The A and B girls' hockey teams' first outing was in Macclesfield against the King's School. After a delay in departure the girls arrived and warmed up quickly. The B team played extremely well and were pleased to go into half time with a goalless draw, ultimately they recorded a 2-0 loss. The A team managed an impressive 5-0 win; a thoroughly deserved victory...may the goals keep flowing! A great start to the season, well done to all of the girls involved.
An Olympian Cross Country Season for the Juniors
Junior School pupils in Years 5 and 6 seem to have been inspired by the 2012 Games, and have enjoyed a very successful cross country season in the Newcastle Primary Schools League. Over 5 individual races, and with 16 schools entered in each, the girls' team managed to win the league with the boys' team coming a creditable third position. Special mentions must go to Grace Potts and Bella Goodwin who won individual gold and bronze medals respectively; a superb achievement over a season of races packed with 60-80 runners each week. Finally both boys and girls performed brilliantly in the final relay of the season. Here, the boys emerged with silver medals and the girls triumphant with gold. Well done to everyone who has taken part in cross country throughout the 2012 season, and a big thank you to Mrs Tapp for all her organisation and effort.
Juniors host Newcastle Schools Cross Country
Wednesday 17 October saw over 14 local primary schools descend upon Stubbs Field. We were very lucky with the weather as it remianed dry, with glimpses of sunshine! The girls race was as competitve as ever, with Grace Potts and Bella Goodwin battling their way to first and second positions respectively. Katie Vernon came a creditable 7th. With over 80 girls in the race, all of our team and guest runners performed incredibly well. For the boys, Oliver Knee once more excelled, coming 7th out of 93 runners. The rest of the boys' teams performed admirably, recording positions within the top two thirds of the race. A huge thanks to Mrs Tapp for all her organisation, and as ever, our very hard working groundstaff. We look forward to next week's final individual race at Churchfields.
Juniors race in their first cross country at Rode Hall
An extremely wet, muddy but beautiful setting at Rode Hall, was the scene for some very energetic and enthusiastic Junior School pupils. Two teams of boys and girls ran together in an exciting and varied course, organised by Terra Nova School. Fantastic performances all round, but Oliver Knee and Grace Potts's individual bronze medals were particularly outstanding achievements. Well done everyone.
