The Orme Nursery, as part of Newcastle-under-Lyme School provides the best start to an unbroken and coherent education for children from the age of 3 to 18. We achieve this by providing quality care and Early Years education to 3 and 4 year olds. The children are at the heart of all that we do; their, growth and happy development being our priority.

The Orme Nursery is open throughout the year, providing children with a high quality of care and education whilst offering parents a choice in how their children might attend. The curriculum is designed to ensure there is an appropriate framework for staff to create the most stimulating programme of activity for every child and yet offer parents the flexibility they require.
Age of admittance
The Nursery accommodates children from the age of 3. They are eligible for a place from the beginning of the term of their third birthday, the terms being 1 September to 31 December; 1 January to 31 March and 1 April to 31 August.
Hours of opening
The Nursery is open throughout the year excluding Bank Holidays. There is a 2 week closure over Christmas which covers the Bank Holidays and holiday period.
The day is divided into 2 sessions, morning and afternoon with lunch being considered as part of the morning session. We also provide a shorter day to allow parents to collect children at the same time as older siblings in the Preparatory or Senior School.
Parents may choose to structure the sessions in a variety of ways:
A mixture of mornings and afternoons
A mixture of whole days
Term time only or 50 week provision.
Funded sessions only
Children are provided with nutritious, well-balanced meals and suitable alternatives are provided for those who have specific dietary requirements.
The Nursery Curriculum
Children develop rapidly during their early years: physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. Our Nursery curriculum is designed to provide a supportive framework to extend their knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence. Well-planned and purposeful play activities are set out to build on what children already know and can do.
The curriculum encourages a positive attitude and a disposition to learn. We endeavour to provide a rich and stimulating environment where children feel included, secure and valued.

Personal, Social and Emotional:The curriculum helps to develop self-awareness and self-confidence; manage feelings and behaviour and make relationships.
Communication and Language:
The curriculum supports listening and attention, understanding and speaking.
The curriculum encourages moving and handling, health and self-care.
The curriculum will support and develop skills in reading and writing.
The curriculum will support the development of skills used when working with numbers, shape, space and measure.
Understanding the World:
The curriculum will extend their knowledge of people and communities; the world and technology.
Expressive Art and Design:
The curriculum will stimulate the children to explore and use different media and materials and be imaginative.

Our aim is to provide the highest standard of care and education for your child. We recognise the importance of a good partnership between staff and parents, or carers, and endeavour to keep you well informed of activities and your child’s development. This will be accomplished through:
Communication with a key worker
We fully understand that children need time to learn and develop appropriate behaviour patterns and most of such issues will be supported through our daily activities. However, it may on occasion be necessary to work together with parents or carers to encourage and enforce social ground rules and boundaries.
